विदुर द्वापर युग में हस्तिनापुर के महामंत्री हुआ करते थे. विदुर एक बुद्धिमान एवं महान नीतिकार थे. इनके अनुभवों के द्वारा जो नीतियां बनायीं गई थी उनका द्वापर युग से लेकर आज तक प्रयोग किया जा रहा हैं. प्राचीन काल में प्रमुख रूप से आचार्य चाणक्य एक प्रमुख महान नीतिकार थे.
विदुर महाभारत काल में महाराज धृतराष्ट्र के महामंत्री थे . विदुर हमेशा सत्य, धर्म, अहिंसा का साथ देते थे. विदुर का जन्म एक दासी के यहाँ हुआ था जिसके कारण उनको हस्तिनापुर का राजा नहीं बनाया गया.

पांडु के हस्तिनापुर का राजा बनने के बाद विदुर को हस्तिनापुर का महामंत्री बना दिया गया. विदुर को पांडवों का हितैषी माना जाता है क्योंकि वे सदैव सत्य, धर्म, अहिंसा का साथ देते थे. विदुर ने हमेशा अपने बुद्धि कौशल से हस्तिनापुर को बड़ी से बड़ी मुसीबत से निकाला था.
विदुर हमेशा महाराज धृतराष्ट्र को समझाया करते थे परन्तु महाराज धृतराष्ट्र पुत्रप्रेम के वशीभूत होकर दुर्योधन का पक्ष लेते थे. जो कि महाभारत युद्ध होने का प्रमुख कारण था. यदि आप विदुर द्वारा कही गई बातों को अपने जीवन में प्रयोग करते हैं तो आप हमेशा हर काम में सफल, जीवन खुशियों भरा होगा.
विदुर जी ( विदुर नीति ) कहते हैं कि हर चीज़ यथा - खाना, घर, शिक्षा तथा वस्त्र आदि के लिए हमें धन की आवश्यकता होती हैं. प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को आय के कई साधन रखने चाहिये. जिसके पास आय के कई साधन होते हैं वह मनुष्य बहुत भाग्यशाली होता हैं. सुखी, समृद्ध, शांतिपूर्ण जीवन जीने के लिए धन आवश्यक होता हैं . जिस मनुष्य के पास पर्याप्त धन होता हैं उसका जीवन सुख, समृद्ध, शांति से भरपूर होता हैं.

विदुर जी ( विदुर नीति ) कहते हैं कि आज के समय हर मनुष्य को प्रत्येक दिन किसी न किसी रोग (बीमारी) का सामना करना पड़ता हैं. रोगी मनुष्य अपने इलाज के लिए अधिक धन खर्च कर देता हैं जिसके कारण उसकी आर्थिक स्थिति कमजोर हो जाती हैं . आर्थिक स्थिति कमजोर हो जाने के कारण उसके घर परिवार में दुःख, दरिद्रता का वास हो जाता है. रोग (बीमारी) के कारण मनुष्य का शरीर भी ख़त्म हो जाता हैं. अतः हमें अपने शरीर को रोगमुक्त रखने का प्रयास करना चाहिये . रोगमुक्त रहने से हमारा जीवन सुख, समृद्ध, शांति से भरपूर होता हैं.

विदुर जी ( विदुर नीति ) कहते हैं कि बुद्धिमान, सुन्दर , समझदार पत्नी एक स्वच्छ सुन्दर समृद्ध घर बनती हैं ,यदि वही इसके विपरीत स्वाभाव वाली स्त्री दुःख, दरिद्रता, विवादपूर्ण घर का निर्माण करती हैं. विदुर जी ( विदुर नीति ) कहते हैं कि जिस घर में बुद्धिमान, सुन्दर , समझदार पत्नी होती हैं उस घर में माँ सरस्वती एवं माँ लक्ष्मी का निवास होता हैं . माँ सरस्वती एवं माँ लक्ष्मी का आशीर्वाद उस घर परिवार हमेशा बना रहता हैं और उस घर में धन धन्य , सुख शांति समृद्धि का वास होता हैं.

विदुर जी ( विदुर नीति ) कहते हैं कि जिस मनुष्य के पास आज्ञाकारी संतान होती हैं वह मनुष्य बहुत भाग्यशाली होता हैं. पुराणों में कहा गया हैं कि आज्ञाकारी संतान प्रभु राम के प्रतिरूप के समान होती हैं . विदुर जी ( विदुर नीति ) कहते हैं कि जिस घर में आज्ञाकारी संतान होती हैं वह घर सुखी, समृद्ध, शांतिपूर्ण होता हैं. वह संतान आपके कुल का नाम चारो दिशाओं में प्रकाशमान कर देती हैं. वही इसके विपरीत स्वाभाव वाली संतानसे आपके घर में दुःख, दरिद्रता, विवाद का वास रहता हैं.
